Horse Riding on Menorca: Which of Four Coastal Rides Should You Book, From €40 to €173?
4 min read
For most visitors the Cala Mitjana horseback ride is the one to book. It is the only ride whose listing says “ideal for beginners and families” and also names a destination, a turquoise cove. It costs €129 for 1.5 hours and is rated 5.0 from 7 reviews. For families on a budget, the Son Boter Valley ride is €40.
One caution first. All four rides have between 3 and 8 reviews. The ratings are good, but nobody has tested them yet in numbers, so read the booking pages closely.
The four rides compared
| Ride | Duration | Price | Rating | What the listing says |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Son Boter Valley | 1 hour | €40 | 4.8 from 5 reviews | leisurely ride on the Camí de Cavalls; ideal for families, children and beginners |
| Atalis and Son Bou coast | 2 hours | €80 | 4.5 from 8 reviews | Camí de Cavalls to the coast, views of Atalis and Son Bou |
| Cala Mitjana | 1.5 hours | €129 | 5.0 from 7 reviews | countryside trails, sea views, gentle ride for beginners and families |
| Cala Fustam with a swim | 2.5 hours | €173 | 5.0 from 3 reviews | private landscape, hidden cove, horse into the water if conditions permit |
Son Boter: the cheap first try
The title says 45 minutes and the duration field says one hour, so ask which includes mounting and a briefing. The route runs along the Camí de Cavalls through a valley, not to a beach. This is the one to pick if a child or a nervous adult wants to find out whether they like horses before spending more. It is not a ride for views of the sea.

Atalis and Son Bou: the longest ride that is not the priciest
Two hours is the most time in the saddle for under €100. It follows the Camí de Cavalls to the coast, with views of Atalis and Son Bou. Unlike the other three, the listing does not say anything about beginners, so ask about the level before you book if you have never ridden. It also has the lowest rating of the four, 4.5, though from the largest number of reviews.

Cala Mitjana: the destination ride
This is the ride in the photo above: countryside, a cove, sea views, at an easy pace. The €89 gap to the Son Boter ride is the price of reaching a beach-view destination, and of 30 minutes more than the shortest ride. Whether it is worth it depends on whether the cove matters to you.

Cala Fustam: the swim
At €173 for 2.5 hours it is the dearest. You ride through private land to a hidden cove and, “if conditions permit”, take the horse into the sea. The condition is real: if the sea is rough, you will not swim. Ask what happens to the ride, and the price, in that case. Nothing in the listing says it is for beginners.

Who should skip it
Skip all four if your group has mixed levels and wants to stay together; none of the summaries states group size, minimum age or weight limits, and each stable sets its own. If you would rather keep moving under your own power, the E-bike and quad tours are a better fit. All walking and riding options are on the hiking and horse riding page.
The recommendation
Book the Cala Mitjana ride unless budget or time is tight, in which case the Son Boter Valley ride is the easy trial.
